Residents at the University of Saskatchewan, are be expected to teach a variety of people including patients, medical students, clerks and fellow residents. Teaching others improves residents’ understanding of medicine because it forces them to rethink their knowledge and skills in a particular area. Clerks and medical students like having residents as teachers because their experiences are fresh. At some point in their first year, residents are expected to take TIPS for Residents which is a formal two day introduction to teaching course. This online orientation module is meant to provide residents with some very basic knowledge about teaching until they are able to take the TIPS course.
