Are you thinking about bringing in a guest speaker? Have you invited guest speakers before? Have you been a guest speaker in someone else’s class? If you answered yes to any of these questions, this workshop is for you. Inviting a guest speaker into your classroom might be an effective strategy for your class to bring an author’s first hand experience into your class, to discuss a recent development in your discipline with another leading expert, or to bring in alternative perspectives on a topic. However, in order to make the most of a guest speaker in your classroom requires careful planning. In this workshop we will examine:

  • Possible ways and reasons to include both local and distant guest speakers
  • What strategies to implement for having guest speakers in face-to-face, blended, and fully online courses
  • What technology tools might support you, your guest, and your students
