Bonus Thing A

The bonus thing was to consider creating a definitive “About Me Page”. When I was in grad school I actually used about.me to create this page, and linked to other online profiles I had from there. About.me started out as a one page bio, and over time I saw it start to encroach on LinkedIn’s territory by adding a CV type section. it was a very convenient site to have at the time, and they even had a tool to create an email signature for you which I really liked because it had a left floating image. In 2015 (well after grad school) I got a Reclaim Hosting account, and started the module13 domain as my digital portfolio space (more on that at Interviewing My Domain). Eventually I decided to also purchase my namesake domain and started jrdingwall.ca. I closed my about.me page and moved most of that content over to my own space. That “calling card” site is now my primary hub and I link out from there. If you have a Reclaim account you can set one up in just a few clicks as they’ve added it to the installatron.

update

I found a screenshot of one of the first iterations of my About.me page I included in a presentation. I’ve updated the feature image to this screenshot.

  1. […] It’s one of my favorite ways to do a calling card site; you can see many great examples, but I like how JR Dingwell just blogged about the usefulness of a top of the domain landing site. […]
