Reclaimed – Hello and welcome to Helsinki Summer School 2012

Earlier this week I was scrolling through my Facebook feed and I noticed something peculiar that a couple of my colleagues had commented on (I still think it’s a bit weird that stuff appears in that feed if friends “like” or “comment” on posts that are pretty far removed from me, but in this case it worked out). Robin DeRosa and Maha Bali were commenting on this article Google deletes artist’s blog and a decade of his work along with it and it reminded me that I’ve been thinking about where my content exists currently online. So this was the kick in the pants I needed to get started on this. I backed up two of my blogs from Blogger and will be transitioning that content over here to my domain.
My name is JR and this year I am attending HSS and am enrolled in the Designing Teacher Education for the Future course. I am an education student from Canada, pursuing a degree in Educational Technology and Design, so that is the framework you may notice my observations leaning towards.
Not only am I taking this class, but currently Helsinki is the World Design Capital 2012. What does this mean? It means the city is bursting with design, from architecture, to fashion, to education, to glass and kitchenware, etc. While I am in Helsinki I will also be visiting some of the exhibitions related to design, as well as pavilions.
I hope you take an opportunity to visit Helsinki this year.
